My Biography

When I was no more than five or six, my mother would  take her family for nature walks through a forest glen near our home.  As we walked along she would point out the Tiger Lilies, Johnny-Jump-Ups, and the small forest orchids known to her as the Lady Slipper growing among the ferns along the stream.  During these trips that small boy’s love for beauty and design was kindled.

My first significant contact with photography came as a ten year old when my uncle, a Navy reconnaissance  photographer during WWII, opened a small studio near out home and asked me to help him in the darkroom   Here, wonder was born as the photos came to life right before my eyes.  Outside of the common snap-shots, however,  I never really began to develop my photography until years later .

One day, upon seeing an impressive photo by my brother Don, I became hooked.  I went out and bought a Pentax SLR film camera just like his, and a photographer was born.  I began to study light and exposure and composition and to shoot in earnest.

When Digital Photography came along it became the preferred medium of choice.  Digital greatly enhanced the speed that I was able to develop as a photographer.

I have always made my photos for my own personal pleasure.  Often I scroll through the thousands of photos, marveling at the light, beauty and design of creation, all the while reliving the emotion of each Visual Moment.

It is my hope that my photos will help you to feel the emotion and wonder, as light, contrast and design come together forming for you, your very own Visual Moment.
